Allergy Season seems to be year round in Austin. There isn’t a day that goes by when someone doesn’t comes into the store with a runny nose, watery eyes, itchy throat and ears and sinus congestion. I’ve seen great results from OrthoMolecular’s D-Hist™ formula but for those tough allergy cases who need that extra boost I’m finding Seasonal Shield™ by NuMedica to be very impressive.
The other day a customer came into the store looking for a good cinnamon product for her blood sugar issues. I showed her one of my favorites: CinnDromeX by Xymogen. She was very specific about whether the ingredients included cinnamon cassia or cinnamon Ceylon, because she had heard that the more common cinnamon cassia was toxic.
Depending on the body to repair itself from traumatic brain injury without nutritional assistance is a gamble! Research shows that the primary injury that occurs in traumatic brain injury, TBI (either through concussion or stroke), initiates a secondary injury which is an interdependent cascades of biological reactions caused by the primary injury. In other words, even if your overt symptoms subside don’t think that the brain has healed and you are out of the woods.
There has been a dramatic increase in the use of nutritional supplements over the last several years, with many relying on these alternatives as a means to prevent and treat disease. However, there is a common belief held by the population that all supplements are created equal.
Your health is supported by trillions of beneficial microorganisms that make up your intestinal flora. This micro flora accounts for three to five pounds of your total body weight. Their genes are estimated to outnumber your own by about a hundredfold! Our gastrointestinal tract harbors this highly diverse microbial population termed the microbiome, which plays a major role in nutrition, metabolism, protection against pathogens, and development of the immune system.
Several Customers have asked me what is PPC? Let’s start by saying that every cell in your body is contained in a lipid matrix, called a phospholipid; sort of like a skin for the cell, keeping the insides in and the outsides out. Therefore, the integrity of every cell in your body relies on fat. PPC or phosphatidylcholine is the most prominent phospholipid and the major fat of your cell membranes and blood proteins.
Many folks are trying the Keto diet plan for better health and weight loss. The diet involves significantly reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, by which the body burns fat for fuel instead of demanding carbohydrates for energy. Many keto fans have learned that intake of medium chain triglycerides, MCT oil can be beneficial.
In 1989, Kaplan NM, redefined the term “Syndrome X” AKA “Metabolic Syndrome” as “The Deadly Quartet”, which includes:
1. Elevated glucose and insulin resistance.
2. Hyperlipidemia, (high LDLs, triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol).
3. High blood pressure.
4. Weight around the middle, (“apple shape”).
About 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers and 86 percent of melanomas are associated with solar UV, and more than 419,000 cases of skin cancer in the U.S. each year are linked to indoor tanning. Now, I don’t indoor tan, but I grew up in So. California and spent most of my youth slapping baby oil on and laying on the beach like a slab of bacon.
Inside the brain are billions of neurons that are connected by messengers that transmit electrical impulses from one cell to another, allowing communication and thought to occur in the brain. A neurotransmitter, (NT) is the chemical messenger used by these neurons to communicate with other neurons.
We talk a lot about genome SNPs, which are basically mutations or glitches in our DNA that under the right environment may be ignited and predispose us to disease. Before we launch into more information about the benefits of NAS Enhancer (formerly named Nrf2/SOD Enhancer), let’s first get a clear understanding of certain terminology. When your practitioner talks about alleles in your genome profile, he/she may mention terms like MTHFR, NRF2, SOD or mTOR.
Ho, ho, ho and all that. During big holidays or special occasions, many of you are going to end up drinking alcohol. Let’s face it – it’s is everywhere and social interactions often involve it. So chances are you will imbibe now and then. Life’s too short not to indulge once in a while. Fortunately, it’s possible to have a few drinks on occasion without completely destroying your brain and mental health.
It been a time honored tradition that raw honey is known for its tremendous nutritional and immune boosting abilities, but because of industrialization, honey isn’t what it used to be. Manuka honey, however, is different. Researchers at the New Zealand University of Waikato discovered the nutritional content of Manuka honey is up to 4 times that of normal flower honeys and that it has a considerably higher level of enzymes than regular honey.
A few years ago, I decided to get my feet wet in the online dating game. I started out with the first-time, big-dog, sites, your eHarmonies, your Match.coms, and soon found them to be the biggest timewasters. I spent hours answering cliched questions, crafting 60 years of who I am into cleaver 50- characters-or-less descriptions, and sifted through potential suiter photos and profiles. I soon realized that 98% of the guys that contacted me had only looked at my photo, but never read my profile.
When your intestinal flora thrives, you can too. Good intestinal flora helps prevent bloating, gas and yeast overgrowth by controlling the pH level, or acidity of the intestines. Friendly microbes also help prevent disease in several ways. They deprive invaders of nutrients and secrete acids that less-friendly microbes don’t tolerate well. They also reinforce the mucosal barrier of the intestines.
Before we go down the rabbit hole about Biological Response Modifiers (BRMs), let’s first take a look at the soldiers in our immune army. The immune system is a highly intelligent system made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. When foreign substances, known as antigens, are detected in the body, several types of cells work together to recognize them and respond.
When insulin binds to its receptor on the cell, it “unlocks” and releases secondary messengers. There are two insulin mediators or messenger molecules - Myo inositol and D’chiro inositol that let the cell know it needs to respond to insulin. Inositol-phospho-glycan, (IPG) cleaves to either myo-inositol or D’chiro-inositol. D’chiro inositol, (DC-IPG), signals to the cell to either burn or store sugar. While Myo- IPG signals to produce testosterone.

In 1989, my mother died, suddenly, of a massive heart attack. A year and a half later, my father, after suffering and recovering from 2 strokes, died of congestive heart failure. Besides my brother, I am the only living member on both sides of the family that has not died of a heart related disease.
The other day a mother came into the store and asked for another bottle of CBD oil for her autistic son. I asked her how that was working for him and she replied, her son has not had a tantrum since she put him on it. She said this has been a lifesaver because his psychotropic medication was not working for him.
I am seeing amazing results with Ortho Molecular’s new product Bergamot BPF. WOW! A clinical study, published in the International Journal of Cardiology, 2013;170:140-145 showed:
Baseline total cholesterol at 278, -- After 6 week of 2 capsules daily – total Cholesteroldecreased to 191, LDL (bad cholesterol) at 191, -- decreased to 113, HDL (good Cholesterol) at 38 -- increased to 45, and Triglycerides at 238 -- decreased to 165.
So, Peter I want to talk about berberine, cuz the research on it is quite amazing. Berberine has been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for over 2500 years, but research in the West on the antihyperglycemic activities of berberine were first observed in 1986. Berberine is a mixed nutraceutical, meaning that it has several effects that we can divide into the broad categories of lowering blood sugar, lipids, and body weight.
DIM is short for Diindolylmethane. DIM has the health-promoting properties of plant indoles found in cruciferous vegetables, including cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. DIM is an estrogen balancer that promotes beneficial, healthy estrogen metabolism in both women and men. A slow metabolism of estrogen leaves too much unmetabolized, active estrogen (also called estradiol), which can be a problem in women and men.
Studies show that men’s testosterone levels have been declining for decades. The most prominent, a 2007 study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, revealed a “substantial” drop in U.S. men’s testosterone levels since the 1980s, with average levels declining by about 1% per year. Testosterone levels affect women as well..
If you saw my last blog post entitled: PQQ and the Little Engine that Could, I talked about what PQQ is and ATP, and NADH and CoQ10 and…okay I can feel your eyes about to glaze over already, but before you move that mouse this will be good, I promise.
Whenever I talk to my clients about different products and their benefits, I tend to get all excited and launch into conversations with words like mitochondrial biogenesis, adenosine triphosphate, and coenzyme / cofactors and I watch their eyes glaze over as they search for the door.
Recent research suggests that the brain/CNS central nervous system and the immune system are more connected than previously thought. When exposed to foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, and tumors, the body’s immune system stirs up a surge of activity: inflammatory response; white blood cells burst compromised cells and devour invading pathogens; and antibodies tag outsiders for destruction. Except, in the brain or so we thought.
In my last blog, I talked about the Genomix Nutrition test. Remember? We can predict with increasing precision who is more likely to develop specific diseases; who will respond positively or react negatively to a particular drug or supplement therapy; and finally, which nutrients are optimal for a specific individual’s treatment, health, and well-being.
Have you ever noticed that some folks go through life and no matter what comes up they just glide right through it, while others react to the slightest ripple? … I know right? I don’t know about you, but I’m kinda the second one. Well, believe it or not there is has a genetic connection, the COMT SNP for example. Folks with this genetic SNP have a tough time down-regulating their excitatory neurotransmitters.
Now, for the first time in history!
I know… it sounds like a commercial, but it’s true. We can predict with increasing precision who is more likely to develop specific diseases; who will respond positively or react negatively to a particular drug or supplement therapy; and finally, which nutrients are optimal for a specific individual’s treatment, health, and well-being. But first let’s get a few terminologies out of the way.
As we talked about in our original conversation about Genomix Nutrition there are five different important categories to look at when it comes to your genomic report: Neurotransmitter, Methylation, Mitochondria, Detoxification and Inflammatory markers. In the last blog we talked about neurotransmitter genetic markers.
Ask me about my attention deficit disorder, or pie, my cat. a dog. I have a bike. do you like tv? I saw a rock. Hi! An important ingredient in Full Focus is tyrosine, which is an amino acid that directly affects the brain. Tyrosine is used in the production of neurotransmitters. A neurotransmitter is the chemical messenger used to talk to other neurons.
Note to self: write a note to remind myself where I put the last note.
Brain fog, ever felt it? Let me sum it up for you, confusion, forgetfulness, lack of focus and mental clarity. Basically you feel like you just can’t think. I know right? In the last blog we were talking about L’tyrosine in FullFocus.
My Brain is like the Bermuda Triangle. Information goes in and then it’s never found again. Ever go into a room and forgot what you went in there for? Well, consider this; “ A piece of brain tissue the size of a grain of sand contains 100,000 neurons and 1 billion synapses all communicating with each other. Brain information moves at an impressive 260 miles per hour.
Acetyl l’carnitine! If you have been following my blog so far we are talking about Neurobiologix exciting new product MitoCell. Just to recap, we talked about PQQ the antioxidant with the ability to carry out 20,000 catalytic conversions compared to only 4 for vitamin C, CoQ10 the ignition of the cell and now we’re going to talk about acetyl l’carnitine. Acetyl l’carnitine is synthesized to provide a more bioavailable form of L-carnitine.
