The name Thieves’ Oil has an interesting history dating back to the 15 th  century.
During the bubonic plague in Europe and Asia, an estimated 150 million people died
during this four-year pandemic. As the story goes, four European thieves had a successful practice of robbing the homes and bodies of the sick and deceased of anything of value. But these bodies were highly contagious, beginning with severe flu symptoms that lead to a bacterial infection of the blood, usually ending in death. So how did these villains get the treasures without contracting the plague? Legend has it that the thieves were perfume and spice merchants who lost their livelihoods because of this devastating pandemic. They applied a blend of cloves, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary to their hands, ears, feet, temples, and on a mask that they wore over their mouth. Their hats and masks smelled of vinegar and garlic and this combination of herbs and spices came to be known as Thieves’.

Eventually authorities caught the four vandals, and they were imprisoned for robbing sick and vulnerable people. In accordance with the laws of the day, they were to be burned alive for their crimes, but the king told them he would spare them that if they would share how they avoided the plague. Once the king learned of their secret, he did spare them the punishment of being burned but hung them instead.

Thieves’ Oil blend has antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-infectious properties. Studies show that the five-essential-oils blend helps boost the immune, circulatory, and respiratory systems. The synergy of this concoction may help protect against the flu, cold, sore throat, bronchitis, and even from airborne bacteria.
